A GOYA for Halloween...

After a Halloween visit from the Ghost of Francisco Goya (18th century Spanish painter). Students in Art 1 created a mural in his style. Goya is known for his "dark" imagery, which was a metaphor for the troubling times he lived in.

MYSTERY IMAGE DRAWING!!!

What is it?????? Students are given a "fragment" of a larger image and asked to recreate it as a pattern of VALUES and creative marks...

The resulting image will look abstract, but placed with the group's work, will make a complete picture!!!

BRIDGET RILEY's harmonious lines ....

Look how Riley used lines that are similar in shape, distance and thickness to make her art. She is known as an "OP"artist- the work makes an optical "shimmer" or sense of movement...

When she changes the line thickness and spacing of lines, the visual effect is dramatic!

Lines that are parallel, similar in shape and seem to grow off each other are harmonious and beautiful!

Here is a full- on right brain activity..... wonderful training to "see" shapes, angles and distances...

Because the drawing you are copying is upside down, your left brain can not work it out, and your RIGHT brain takes over! Start by looking where the drawing hits the edges, and work your way through the piece...

Mehretu, and Ethiopian born artist, creates large drawings. Her work is a response to city environments, the internet and the overwhelming layers of data that we live with and in today...

Her drawings are created by layering marks over a period of time. The marks are varied in size, shape, and transparency.... Some of the marks are traced from architecture, maps or other images.

The resulting effect is a "cloud" of lively marks, some you can identify, others remind you of feelings or actions. The work changes as you view it from different distances...
